Following my “Murder” series, “Pokok-Pokok” is my second attempt to use painting as the central element of an installation.
The idea is to explore how far a narrative can extend beyond the boundaries of a single canvas. By repeatedly painting the same subject, the story unfolds from one panel to the next, gradually expanding into the surrounding space and enveloping the viewer.
「 Pokok-Pokok 」 は絵画で構成されたインスタレーションです。「 Murder 」 シリーズに続き、二回目の挑戦でした。
この作品では、一枚のキャンバスの枠を越えて、物語がどこまで広がり得るのかを探求したかったです。同じモチーフを繰り返し描くことで、ストーリーが一つの画面から次の画面へと展開し、徐々に空間の全体に広がりながら鑑賞者を包み込んでいるように考えて制作しました。

For this installation, I draw inspiration from Kanō Sansetsu and the tradition of Japanese painting in which natural landscapes are depicted on fusuma (sliding doors), kakejiku (hanging scrolls) and byōbu (folding screens).
These works were not conceived as isolated images, but as integral elements of an architectural environment, shaping the atmosphere of a room and influencing how it is experienced.
このインスタレーションは、狩野山雪の作品からインスパイアーされました。自然風景をモチーフにして、襖絵、掛軸、屏風などに描く日本画の美意識から着想を得ています。
木の作品たちはそれぞれの絵画として存在する形ではなく、空間の一部として構想され、雰囲気を形づくり、より絵の世界観に入りやすい感じで作りました。
In a similar way, Pokok seeks to dissolve the distinction between painting and space, allowing the imagery to extend beyond the frame and become part of the viewer’s physical surroundings.
「 Pokok 」 も同じく、絵画と空間の境界を曖昧にしようとしています。画面の中のイメージはパネルの枠を越えて広がり、鑑賞者を取り巻く空間の一部となることで、より没入的な体験生み出します。
